WFU Music Film Screening: Setan Jawa
Scales Fine Arts Center, 1775 Wake Forest Rd. Winston-Salem, NC 27109
Free
Join the Department of Music for a celebration of Indonesian filmaker Garin Nugroho's work, featuring the iconic silent film Setan Jawa accompanied by a live score composed and performed by Peni Candra Rini (with Andy McGraw).
The film explores Indonesia's pre-orthodox Islamic stories of the seven deals man makes with the devil to gain wealth. The live score dramatically underpins the mysticism and sensuality of Nugroho's tale of love and sacrifice.
Free and open to the public.
